What is ScrapBooking?

Scrapbooking is the creative hobby of combining photos, memorabilia, and stories (known as journaling) into a scrapbook. All you need to get started are some photos that need sorting into albums and a willingness to be creative with the many materials and techniques used to create your scrapbooking pages.

The purpose of scrap booking is to record our memories and experiences to share with family and friends now and in the future. A scrapbook is simply a decorated photo album. Scrapbooks are great as baby albums, wedding albums, or heritage and family albums. They make wonderful gifts for parents, grandparents or friends.

The process of scrap booking enables you to organize all of those photos that you have boxed away as you like at the same time as protecting them from deterioration so that future generations can enjoy your stories. To ensure that this happens, it is important to remember to only use acid-free and lignin-free papers, adhesives, embellishments and any other materials.

This is important because it has been found that the magnetic albums that everyone used to use are not safe for your photos. If you have some of these albums, you may have noticed that some of your photos are showing signs of deteriorated and discolored photos. This is caused by the acid and lignin in the pages of the album.
