Types of scrapbooking albums

Most people use chronological albums, but there are other types of albums to use for a special event or theme.

Chronological albums start at the beginning of a theme (such as a baby’s birth), and continues as long as required.

Special theme albums document one certain theme - Christmas, birthdays, vacations, sports, school, etc.

Heritage albums contain the family history. It can be your current photos for future generations to enjoy, or it can be your old photos documenting your past family heritage.

ABC albums are used as a learning tool for your child. Each page stars your child around a certain letter - for example your child could be eating an apple for “A” and bouncing a ball for “B” etc. These albums can also be done for colors or shapes.

Tribute albums make great gifts. They are a documentation of one person’s life and achievements.

Which ever album you choose to create, you need to choose a size and style of album. The most common sizes are 8”x11” and 12”x12”. All have page protectors which protect your precious pages except for the spiral bound albums.

Strap bound albums have plastic straps which allow the pages to lay flat when the album is open. They have page protectors which are side loading. However, you can’t add pages and are not a standard size.

Ring bound albums commonly have 3 rings which snap apart. They are an inexpensive options with lots of room for extra pages which are easy to add. However, they are not archival quality.

Post bound albums are they most common used. They are held together by metal post screws which can be extended. To do this you have to take the whole album apart and you may find that the extension posts are not the same size for different albums.

Spiral bound albums are more commonly known as brag books which are an inexpensive gift but you cannot add more pages and they are not page protected.
